Anxiety – When Your Mind Won’t Switch Off

📅 Published: March 17, 2026 | 📂 Category: Explainers

Anxiety is not “overthinking” or “being weak”; it is your body’s alarm system getting stuck in ON mode. As a clinician, I see more young professionals and homemakers struggling with racing thoughts, tight chest, acidity, poor sleep and constant fatigue. Anxiety often starts in the mind but quickly disturbs hormones, digestion and immunity.

From a nutrition and naturopathy perspective, my first step is to stabilise blood sugar and calm the nervous system. Skipping meals, living on tea, coffee and biscuits, and late-night dinners create sudden sugar spikes and crashes that worsen irritability and panic. A simple Indian plate with whole grains, dal, vegetables, good fats and adequate water gives your brain steady fuel. Magnesium- and B‑vitamin-rich foods like leafy greens, nuts, seeds, millets and lentils support the production of calming brain chemicals.

I also encourage patients to limit caffeine and refined sugar, practice slow breathing for 5 minutes, twice daily, and add a gentle evening walk. These small, consistent habits signal safety to the brain and help reduce anxiety over time.
