Konkona Sen Sharma has reportedly unfollowed the viral satirical account Cockroach Janata Party, also known as CJP, after initially appearing on its follower list. The development has quickly become a talking point on social media, especially as several other celebrities continue to follow the page.
According to an India Today report, Konkona was earlier seen among the followers of the non-verified Cockroach Janata Party account. However, her name later appeared to be missing from the following list, indicating that she had unfollowed the account. Television actor Abhishek Nigam has also reportedly unfollowed the page.
The Cockroach Janata Party is a fictional, satire-driven political movement created by digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke. The account gained major traction online in May 2026 after a satirical response to controversial remarks made by Chief Justice Surya Kant. The remarks, in which young Indians on social media were reportedly compared to “cockroaches” and “parasites,” triggered widespread outrage online. Soon after, Dipke launched the meme-driven political satire movement, which quickly caught the attention of netizens.
The movement currently operates through two separate social media accounts, one verified and one non-verified. As per the report, the non-verified account has nearly 19.2 million followers, while the verified handle has around 825,000 followers. Konkona was reportedly following the non-verified account before she chose to unfollow it.
Several well-known names from the film and television industry are still following the party’s official Instagram handle. The list reportedly includes filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actors Dia Mirza, Esha Gupta and Fatima Sana Shaikh, director Kunal Kohli and comedian Kunal Kamra. TV personalities such as Umar Riaz, Uorfi Javed, Himanshi Khurana and Sheezan Khan have also joined the online chatter around the fictional political outfit.
What started as an internet joke has now turned into a wider conversation around unemployment, youth frustration, online dissent and political discourse in the digital age. CJP’s rise also reflects how satire pages can quickly become cultural talking points when they tap into public anger and humour at the right moment.
While Konkona Sen Sharma has not publicly commented on why she unfollowed the account, the move has added another layer to the ongoing discussion around the viral page. For now, Cockroach Janata Party continues to dominate social media conversations, with celebrities, influencers and users closely watching its next move.
