The Supreme Court has mandated that total reservations for SC, ST, and OBCs in Maharashtra civic body elections must not exceed 50%. The court warned it would halt the nomination process in constituencies breaching this limit. Elections will proceed based on pre-July 2010 OBC reservation norms, as the Banthia Commission’s report is not yet finalized.
