July 1 (NewsForYou) – Indian airline IndiGo (INGL.NS), opens new tab said on Wednesday it โ€‹has introduced lower fares for passengers โ€Œtravelling with only cabin baggage, as carriers seek to unbundle services to lower ticket prices.

Last โ€‹month, rival Air India also introduced, opens new tab โ€‹a basic economy fare without complimentary meals โ for “price-conscious travellers”.

Here are some details:

  • Indian airlines โ€‹have been grappling with higher costs after โ€‹the Iran war drove up jet fuel prices, their biggest expense, while also contending with airspace โ€‹closures and intensifying competition
  • IndiGo’s entry-level fare, โ€‹called ‘IndiGo Lite’, is a cabin bag-only fare for โ€Œthe โ airline’s economy class customers
  • The fare will be applicable across IndiGo’s domestic and international flights
  • The new fare will be available for โ€‹booking exclusively โ€‹on IndiGo’s โ direct channels starting July 1 and will be eligible for โ€‹travel effective July 15
  • IndiGo’s Lite โ€‹fare โ will provide passengers with a lower base price with an auto-assigned seat at no โ additional โ€‹cost, and a cabin โ€‹bag allowance of up to 7 kilograms
