July 1 (NewsForYou) – Indian airline IndiGo (INGL.NS), opens new tab said on Wednesday it โhas introduced lower fares for passengers โtravelling with only cabin baggage, as carriers seek to unbundle services to lower ticket prices.
Last โmonth, rival Air India also introduced, opens new tab โa basic economy fare without complimentary meals โ for “price-conscious travellers”.
Here are some details:
- Indian airlines โhave been grappling with higher costs after โthe Iran war drove up jet fuel prices, their biggest expense, while also contending with airspace โclosures and intensifying competition
- IndiGo’s entry-level fare, โcalled ‘IndiGo Lite’, is a cabin bag-only fare for โthe โ airline’s economy class customers
- The fare will be applicable across IndiGo’s domestic and international flights
- The new fare will be available for โbooking exclusively โon IndiGo’s โ direct channels starting July 1 and will be eligible for โtravel effective July 15
- IndiGo’s Lite โfare โ will provide passengers with a lower base price with an auto-assigned seat at no โ additional โcost, and a cabin โbag allowance of up to 7 kilograms
